A Black Silk Gauze Surcoat
A black silk gauze surcoat for a lady, embroidered with eight roundels filled with red-capped cranes holding lingzhi fungus, both emblems of long life, surrounded by flowers and leaves. The hem with a wide wave and water border, lishui, supporting wealth emblems of rhinoceros horns. The sleeve ends similarly decorated.
A surcoat decorated with cranes was suitable attire for summer wear over on the occasion of a celebration such as a wedding or auspicious anniversary.
