A Tibetan Woman’s Robe
A festive costume for a Tibetan woman. Made of strips of yak wool resist tie-dyed with patterns on a ground of blue, red, purple or yellow.
Such costumes are still to be seen in Ladakh where they are worn with many extra adornments in the way of jewellery, head dresses, belts and patterned shoes, but the example shown here is particularly fine for its clarity of colour and design.
Ladakh, Zanskar or Nubra Valley, 20th century
Length: 132 cms
