Detail of a square cotton Vrikshachari, or Varsha, pichwai, decorated on a light beige ground with a large flowering kadamba tree, abundantly filled with birds and animals. The tree symbolically representing Lord Krishna. On either side two Gopis venerate the divine and in the lower register cows, peacocks and flute players parade above water, filled with flowers, fish and turtles. The textile bordered with red and purple flower heads and sprays of leaves.
* The scene of Krishna as a tree dweller was associated with the monsoon months.
