Silk Meditation Panel with Daoist Emblems
A silk meditation panel composed of 25 squares of Chinese silk damask, each embroidered in chain stitch with the Eight Buddhist Emblems at the centre, around a central square with an offering. The outer squares worked with seven of the Eight Daoist Emblems, while the remaining nine are auspicious Buddhist objects.
The panel reflects the five colours of Tibetan Buddhism and the layout of the squares can be read as an equal armed cross and also as a swastika, a Buddhist symbol of light.
